Taverns serve drink (and normally food as well) to be consumed on the premises.
In addition to the named taverns listed below, New Pavis also has a large number of thermopolioi, normally at least one per city block (except in Suntown and on Rich Hill). These are just street-facing counters which serve a couple of simple bean and grain stews, and low quality wine and beer. Most tenements and lodgings in Pavis lack dedicated kitchens and cooking is hard (and discouraged because of smoke and fire risk), so the poorer inhabitants tend to get food from the nearest thermopolion and either take it back to their room or eat in the street on the way to or way back from work. Prices are low - a bowl of stew is 2 clacks, a piece of flatbread is 1 clack, a mug of small beer is 4 clacks, a cup of heated date-wine (popular in Dark season) is 8 clacks, and a skewer of herd-beast meat is 9 clacks, normally with a wrap of flatbread.
