Gimpys is the premier tavern in town for those who make their living by venturing into the Old Rubble in search of ancient artefacts and buried treasure. It has a strict invitation-only door policy to keep out the riff-raff and hangers-on - only seasoned mercenaries, warriors and venturers get to come into Gimpys. It is also famous for its stew, which is supposedly produced by a magical artefact looted from the rubble by its three owners, all ex-venturers who were forced to retire after each losing a leg to a chaotic monstrosity in the Rubble. Healing magic had no effect on these wounds as so they used their treasure to buy an old tavern called the Temple, and run it themselves.
The tavern itself is built against the Rubble wall - it is separated from the street by a large walled courtyard. The entrance door actually opens onto stairs down to a tunnel which leads under the courtyard and up further stairs into the tavern building - the only access to the courtyard is from the tavern. Upstairs there are rooms for the proprietors and also others that can be rented by the season. They will also store the effects of those venturing into the Rubble for a season - if they haven't been claimed by the end of the next season, then Gimpys auction them off to pay for the cost of storage.
In their basement is their other unique feature - their own tunnel under the wall and into the Rubble - it exits next to the Zebra pens. Venturers can pay to enter or leave the Rubble via this tunnel.
The food, drink and accomodation at Gimpys is all of reasonable quality and fairly priced, which makes it attractive and popular to those who are permitted entry. The exclusivity makes it a safe place to drink and relax.
